SEO and content strategy

A roadmap built from what your customers search for, with the delivery run alongside your team.

A team publishes 2 posts a week and the enquiries still come from referrals. A founder receives a monthly SEO report full of rankings and can't tell which of them brought a customer.

This service is the plan that ties search work to enquiries and revenue, and the person who runs it. It starts from what your customers search for and how well the site answers it. From that comes a roadmap across content, technical SEO, off-page SEO and reporting, ranked by impact. I do it as a fractional consultant, alongside the writers and developers you already have.

I've worked in SEO since 2018. The first years were agency-side, including multi-market accounts in energy and financial services. The last 3 have been direct with founders and small teams.

Which situation sounds like yours?

Content

You publish regularly and want it to bring enquiries

Keywords grouped by search intent, then mapped to the page that should answer each group. The output is a content plan with briefs a writer can pick up.

Technical

Your site has grown and you can't tell what search engines read

A crawl and indexation review, with the site architecture checked against how people search. Fixes go to your developers as tickets, or I make them myself.

Off-page

Competitors rank above you on the terms that bring customers

A backlink and brand mention review, set against the competitors ranking above you. Digital PR and local listings follow where the gap is.

Team

Your team does the SEO and wants a senior lead

I set the priorities and review the work. An in-house marketer or agency carries the plan between sessions, and training is part of the scope.

What the work covers

Keyword research

Keyword and topic research grouped by intent, covering how customers describe the problem as well as the product.

Roadmap and KPIs

A prioritised plan across content, technical SEO, off-page SEO and reporting, with measures tied to enquiries or revenue.

Content plan and briefs

Topics in priority order, with briefs a writer or subject expert can work from.

On-page optimisation

Titles, headings, internal links and copy on existing pages, starting with the ones that already rank.

Reporting and training

A monthly report that connects search performance to enquiries, with training for the team that reads it.

The technical side is covered in more depth under technical SEO and website migrations. Visibility in AI assistants is under AI search.

How an engagement runs

Step 1

A short fit call

A short call to check the work suits both sides and agree the scope.

Step 2

A scoping audit, from £564 + VAT

A review of the site and its tracking against the search demand in your category, with quick fixes going in as I find them. You see where enquiries could come from and which fixes come first.

Step 3

Roadmap and content plan

The roadmap ranked by impact, with the content plan and the measures to report against. You keep it whatever you decide next.

Step 4

Delivery and reporting

Delivery on a fractional basis, from £1.8k a month, alongside your writers and developers or handed to them with the plan. Reporting runs monthly against the audit baseline.

FAQs

What does an SEO consultant do?

Works out what your customers search for and how well the site answers it, then sets what to change first. The work covers content, technical SEO, off-page SEO and reporting, done directly or with your team.

How is this different from technical SEO?

Technical SEO checks that search engines can reach and read the site. Strategy decides what the site should cover and in what order. Most engagements need some of both, and I run them as one plan.

Do you work alongside our in-house marketer or agency?

Yes. Often the work is setting priorities for an in-house marketer, or covering search alongside an agency that runs other channels.

How long does SEO take?

Fixes to pages that already rank tend to show in 4 to 12 weeks. In one relaunch, a retailer's priority term moved from position 21 to 4 in 10 weeks. New content usually takes 3 to 6 months to rank. A new domain or a competitive term can take 6 to 12, though one new property platform passed 140,000 organic clicks in its first 5 months.

Can we get the roadmap without the delivery?

Yes. The roadmap stands on its own. You can take it to an in-house team or an agency, and the delivery is there when nobody else owns it.

Start with a fit call

A short fit call comes first. Most projects then start with a scoping audit of the site and its search demand, from £564 + VAT. The rest is scoped around what you need.
